 Oscar winner NICOLE KIDMAN and many others are attempting to raise awareness of the violenct crimes against women all over the world. Nichole is the goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). She assisted them to launch the "Say No to Violence against Women" campaign. Nichole says that statistics claim, "One in three women will encounter violence in some way, shape or form against them in their lifetime. So much of it is shrouded in silence. What we are trying to do is say this is something that needs to be addressed. A lot of it is taking away the stigma, creating awareness and not making it a silent pandemic. I want to encourage people of all nations to unite behind our call to end violence against women." |

Unfortunately, Crime is Everywhere!Everywhere you go these days, large metropolitan cities, small isolated towns, or even rural farm communities, crime happens daily. Criminals break into private homes, walkers and joggers are attacked, cars are hijacked in areas where crime was almost never heard of just a short time ago. The folowing are statistics from 2006 - and we know that this has greatly escallated since then. ROBBERIES -- in 2006, Nationwide estimates were 447,403 robberies -- the highest percentage of these crimes occurred in the Southern US. 44.5% of these crimes happened on streets and parking lots, while 14.3% occurred in homes.
RAPES -- In 2006, police report over 92,455 forcible rapes. Most of these rapes occur in the Northeastern part of the US. The greatest numer of rapes happen in July.
CAR JACKINGS -- About 38,000 car jackings happen every year. About 75% of these car jackings included a victim who was forced to face a weapon and threat. 63% of these incidents happened within five miles or closer to the victim's home, including 17% that occurred at or near the home... sometimes in their own driveway. Only 4% occurred more than 50 miles from the injured party's home.
ASSAULTS -- 860,853 aggravated assaults wre registered nationwide during 2006. Guns and firearms accompanied 18.1% of these attacks; a knife (or other brutal cutting instrument) was used in 15.8%, other types of weapons (such as tools, objects, and clubs) were used in 29%, and hands to hand combat, fists and foot-fighting werer involved in 20.1% of these attacks.
